It was a very profitable buisness. African men, women and children were captured on the western coast Africa and were dragged onto slave ships. The survivors were been sold to plantation owners. Slaves had been deprived of all humanity and had been reduced to the state of cattle. The were forced to work. Colonists from America growed new products such as cotton, coffee, sugar, tobacco. They exported them to Europe. Yet, many workers needed to cultivate these crops. Therefore, African slaves were brought to the New World to work for free. This enabled plantation owners to become immensely rich. A whole system was born; Liverpool ( or Nantes in France) became leading cities in Europe for the trade. Thousands of African slaves were traveled on Liverpool ships and many citizens took part in the slave trade. Exercice 6 The Middle Passage was a road where the ships travelled from Africa to America.
