[[professionnalisation]] of politicians
Today, elected positions are detained by people with specific skills. People work full time in politics[^2] and they receive a salary for their activity.[^1]
**Young people tend to lack political experience**
typical political career tend to be quite long, 15 years before entering office in Germany for example + 15 years in Parliament before joining the government
Voter are relatively averse against people with no experience[^3]
Voters prefer politician they already know
Legislators with the longest experience have more likely to be nominated on the top of political list. This seniority rules are convenient for basically everyone :
- it makes the system more predictable
- **if you want to have a simple clue about who is going to have the more influence in political system, you just have to choose for the oldest one**
